SHADWELL JAME MASJID POWERED BY AMCA

Shadwell Maktab - Our Story

Established in 1997, Shadwell Maktab has been a cornerstone of Islamic education for children in the heart of Shadwell. The Maktab was founded in response to the growing needs of the local Muslim community, providing structured and authentic Islamic Studies in a nurturing and disciplined environment.

Growth & Transformation

Under the dedicated leadership of Muhammed Abdul Qahhar, who has served as Headteacher since 2021, the Maktab has experienced significant growth and transformation. When Ustadh Abdul Qahhar began, he was the sole teacher with just over 20 students. Since then, and particularly following the arrival of new committee members in 2023, Shadwell Maktab has entered a new phase of development and community impact.

One of the most notable changes was the financial independence of the Maktab from the masjid administration. All student fees are now reinvested directly into the Maktab, allowing us to improve resources while keeping fees low, competitive, and accessible for local families.

Additional key improvements include:

  • The establishment of dedicated spaces and facilities for female students

  • The recruitment of qualified female teachers to support their learning journey

  • A strong focus on health and safety, student wellbeing, and consistent academic progress monitoring

Today, Shadwell Maktab proudly operates with 9 full-time teachers, all of whom are DBS-checked, safeguarding trained, and certified in paediatric first aid. Our staff also undergo regular professional development and participate in weekly team huddles to share best practices and ensure continuous improvement.

We remain committed to delivering high-quality Islamic education rooted in compassion, structure, and community service.
